Clare guides her bay on a trail down the mountain, observing hopefully as RAIN CLOUDS begin to slowly gather in the distance.
Suddenly her horse REARS BACK in fear, almost throwing her from the saddle. She struggles to control the animal.
From within a large, DEAD TREE emerges a TRANSPARENT MAN who confronts Clare.
CLARE
My God! –Who are you?!.
When she addresses the ghostly figure, it starts to take on more form, but remains throughout the scene an INTERDIMENSIONAL WHITE MAN who appears to be in his mid-20s.
WHITE MAN
(Furious)
Good! Finally someone who can see me! You’re not leaving here
yet, lady!
The horse doesn’t want any part of the ghost. Clare manages to dismount and tie the animal to a tree. Frowning, but obviously moved, she slowly approaches the ghost.
CLARE
Spirit man, I have no intention of leaving here if you need me.
I will hear you.
WHITE MAN
Well, it’s about time somebody listened to me!
CLARE
What is your name, Spirit man?
WHITE MAN
Danny. I’m Danny.
(Suddenly his rage dissipates and he begins to sob.)
--- I didn’t know what I was doing….I just wanted to make a little
money. I needed money. What’s so terrible about that?!
Clare watches him keenly, a realization dawning on her.
CLARE
Danny…are you the one who disturbed the burial ground up there?
The ghost raises his arms to the sky with impotent rage and remorse. DANNY
They wouldn’t leave me alone! I didn’t know! |
